Hi everyone!
Yesterday was Libby’s 2nd Birthday! We had an awesome time. The theme was the Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle.

Libby woke up very happy with a little bit of a devilish glint in her eye.

I should have seen this coming. When we went into the kitchen to have breakfast she saw the un-iced cupcakes for the party sitting on the counter. Yes, I could have been stern, but when the birthday girl demanded a “cake” for breakfast I just handed it over. Fortunately, out of site really is out of mind for a toddler. This morning we had a normal breakfast without any mention of yesterday’s breach of protocol or any requests for a repeat.

Libby insisted on getting in on the ground floor of all the preparations. She “helped” with the balloons. Then “helped” with making the cake frosting. Thank goodness she got distracted when it came time to actually frost the cake. Don’t know if I could have pulled it off with her attached to my hip.

Since it was a Very Hungry Birthday we had to serve some goodies. We had a great fruit salad because in the book the caterpillar feasts on fruits every day of the week. That wasn’t quite enough, though. So, we set up a make-your-own-pizza station with Naan bread for the pizza bread, 2 sauce options, 4 cheeses, 5 meats, and 7 veggies. All set up on Caterpillar plates, of course!

We also had to invite a few of the fuzzy critters to the party.

After our lunch it was time for gifts. This year Libby really mastered her gift opening skills, but she still needed a hand from time to time. She got some wonderful toys, clothes, and books from some very loving family and friends, but getting her to move from one to the next was challenging. No streamlining here. If we had let her she would have spent at least 20-30 minutes on each gift.

However, she could really use some practice on her focus. Yep, that is her in a gift bag. She didn’t go in there to pull out any presents. She just thought it seemed like a good idea.

Her gift from us was her very own play kitchen so she can continue to indulge in her very hungry ways. Quite a lot of her gifts from others were play food and equipment gift sets to stock up her kitchen. As you can see, she was way too busy “a-cookin’ dinna, Mommy” to be bothered to pose for a pic.

At the last, we went for the cake.

Poor kid was getting so sleepy that I am amazed she could stay awake to eat any.

After cake I wisked her off to a nap with barely a wave to our guests. Our little lady feel asleep in 4 minutes and that included time to change diapers.
All in all it was a blast. Libby had a great time and so did we. Thanks to those of you were joined us. Especially to the helpers who (THANK GOODNESS) were on hand early to lend a hand with the prep. You guys are the best. I am afraid I might be needing your services about this time next year.
